Liberty Tree Tavern Review: A Delicious Colonial Feast in the Heart of Disney

Step back into America’s colonial history for a family style feast at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom! Liberty Tree Tavern serves up a Thanksgiving style meal in the middle of a theme park. Read on for details and photos.

The aftermath of a meal at Liberty Tree Tavern. Royal blue cloth napkins lay on a wooden table with empty cups and plates. A Toy Story Woody doll lays forgotten across the table.

Liberty Tree Tavern

Liberty Tree Tavern is a sit-down restaurant in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. It is located in Liberty Square near Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe.

When booking this restaurant, be sure to check out the menu first! The only choice you have is between the regular family style meal and the plant based option. Each table is served the following:

Regular Lunch and Dinner Feast:

  • Parker house Rolls- While not currently posted on the Disney website, we have started our meal with these yummy rolls all three times we’ve eaten at this restaurant.
  • Declaration Salad-Greens with apples, cranberries, cheese and house dressing
  • Green Beans- I am not a huge veggie fan, but these are the best green beans I’ve ever eaten. We even asked for seconds!
  • Mac & Cheese- This is the standard Disney macaroni and cheese that is strangely close to Stouffers…
  • A Meat Platter- Slices of roasted turkey, pot roast and pork
  • Mashed Potatoes & Gravy
  • Stuffing (or dressing depending on what you call it)
  • Cranberry Sauce (very small, see the photo below)
  • OOEY GOOEY TOFFEE CAKE with caramel and vanilla ice cream-Literally the reason we come here

Plant Based Menu

If you are ordering off of the plant based menu, you will receive the following items:

  • Tavern Salad-Mixed greens with house dressing
  • Plant based meatloaf
  • Mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy
  • Seasonal veggies (I’m not sure if these are the same green beans I raved about above or not, we have never ordered the plant based menu.)
  • Johnny Appleseed’s Warm Apple Cake with caramel and whipped topping

Last time we ate here, my brilliant sister-in-law asked if they could serve some plain buttered noodles for my nephew. I was sure they would not be able to do any substitutions given the family style meal, but in typical Disney style, they went above and beyond and found some plain noodles. These were fought over by the 6 and under set at the table and greatly reduced the whining over the food.

We have also found that in addition to the apple cake, the restaurant also has the pre-packaged chocolate chip cookies for picky kids or folks with allergies.

Stay near the Magic!

Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake

Yes, I’m giving the cake its own subheading. It is that good. We dream of the toffee cake. Way back when, this restaurant used to be a la carte for lunch service and you could order the cake on its own. Sadly, this is defunct and you can only get it by ordering the entire feast.

A platter of cake with scoops of vanilla ice cream and drizzles of chocolate and caramel sauce is on a table. A silver spoon rests on the platter.

The cookie-like toffee cake is served warm with scoops of vanilla ice cream on top. Next is a drizzle of chocolate and caramel sauces and to top it all off, toffee candy crumbles (like a Heath Bar).

Last Thanksgiving, we ate with some Disney-files who I knew would appreciate a nod to the Parks with their annual meal. I found this excellent recipe from SixSistersStuff.com

With hungry teenagers, meals like this can be quite a value for our family. We snack during the lunch hour and fill up their bellies on seconds and thirds during the Liberty Tree Tavern feast!
